Allahu Akbar

from Anthemic by Demons of Gyrophonia

/

about

Former National Anthem of Libya.
Adopted in 1969, by Muammar al-Gaddafi. This was recorded the night after it was announced that he had been finally captured and killed by the revolutionaries. His body was, at the time, being stored in the frozen food section of a local market, while investigations were ongoing into who was, ultimately, responsible for his death. The anthem has been relinquished, since its recording, here, and the country has reverted to its previous national anthem, "Libya, Libya, Libya."

The performance here switches between the original (butchered) Arabic and English on the important lines (God is greatest == Allahu Akbar, Sing with me == Kulu mai).

lyrics

Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!
Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!
He is above the plots of the aggressors,
And he is the best helper of the oppressed.
With faith and with weapons, I shall defend my country,
And the light of truth will shine in my hand.
Kulu mai! Kulu mai!
Kulu mai! Kulu mai!

Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!
Allah! Allah! Allahu Akbar!
God is above the aggressors.
Oh world, look up and listen.
The enemy's army is coming, and wishing to destroy me!
With truth and with my gun, I shall repulse him.
Kulu mai! Kulu mai!

Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!
Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!

Allah! Allah! Allahu Akbar!
God is above the aggressors.
And should I be killed,
I would kill him with me!
Sing with me!
Woe to the imperialists,
And God is above the treacherous tyrant!
Allahu Akbar!
Therefore, glorify him, O my country,
And seize the forehead of the tyrant, and destroy him!

Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!
